Overview
of the set-up
The massive dance area
inside the Olympic Stadium during the set-up - the blue mini-van
parked in the centre gives some idea of the scale.
The stage (approximately 120ft X 80 feet) is located at the far
end of the picture under the beer and Ford signs. The stage was
connected by trussing to 5 "islands" set in a circle
within the dance floor space, each containing a 20 X 20 stage with
black steel trussing towers to hold the lights. Each island had a
square truss with 6 StudioColour fixtures and 2 Mac fixtures
suspended on 4 motors so the truss and lights could be moved up
and down during the show. A central triangular structure on a
single hoist held three TechnoBeams. The floor of each island held
4 Studio colour fixtures and DataFlash strobes.
There was also a similarly outfitted central "island"
where the 4 laser projection systems were located (just behind the
blue van in the picture above), one on each corner facing
outwards. The lasers could project images onto scrims (the
transparent screens seen in the photo above) as well as static
beam effects onto an array of 12 mirrors per system (48 mirrors
total) and scanned beam effects above and onto the audience. In
addition to the same complement of lighting as the other islands,
the central island also held 4 racks of 64 PAR cans each and was
equipped with monitors for the Live PA and artist performances
that took place on the central island.
