The Blue room was
upstairs in the main stadium but only occupying about 1/3 of the
available space [about 1/4 of which was the massive multi-level
stage].
With the event in two rooms this year, you never really feel that
same critical mass as when the event is in one room... even though
there were at least 5,000 people on the Blue room dance floor, it
just never felt like the massive spirit and energy I have felt at
past Black & Blue parties. We were located with the laser
system on a balcony of the Blue room some 8 metres above the dance
floor.... so while we had a fabulous view.... We felt isolated
from the crowd. All the live shows were in the Blue room so we got
to sit around and watch those from a good vantage point...
|

Outrageous and
inventive costumes abounded at the party.
|
There were several
stage shows. Olive, a singer from England, performed some songs
including her hit "You're not alone" which I first heard
at the Black & Blue some 4 years ago... There was an elaborate
dance number with lots of fancy costumes... including a drag queen
appearing on a hydraulic lift.
One very interesting number was called "Techno Tap" and
featured synthesiser created bass lines while the percussive
sounds were produced by a chorus of 20 tap dancers. Special
microphones were installed under the stage floor so the sounds of
the tap dancers could be blended into the music.

Views from the VIP lounge of one of the stage
shows. Note the large metal X on the top of the stage -
that is to symbolize the 10th anniversary of the Black
& Blue.
|
And why do we get
invited to the Black & Blue... to perform laser shows of
course! Here are a couple of photos of our system in action in the
Blue room...

camera in the other.

I hope that for next
year, the organisers of the event can find a venue where we can
again have the massive space and feel of a sea of others partying
around us in one big room.
